She can be both.

Hi! I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Erica and I am the face behind TheCodeBlueFarmHer. I’m a 3rd generation farmer in Auburn, MI and a registered nurse by trade.

Scroll down to learn more about how I balance both of my worlds and advocate for healthcare + agriculture within my community.

Farmer at heart.

As a third-generation farmer, my agricultural roots run deep in the Midwest, raising corn + soybeans.

Women belong in the fields, in a tractor, in agriculture.

During planting season, you can find me loading the planter, picking large rocks out of the fields prior to any field activity + working in the office.

During the summer months, you can find me in a soybean field somewhere manually hoeing weeds in the organic fields + checking test plots

During harvest, you can find me behind the wheel of a tractor running grain cart for the guys or checking the corn moisture for the umpteenth time.

During the winter months, you can find me in the office working on paperwork or at an agricultural conference throughout the midwest,

Throughout the whole year, you can find me working on Great Lakes ProGro with a cup of coffee in hand (always).

Nursing by trade.

As a full-time registered nurse, I spend a decent amount of my time in scrubs at the hospital working 12-16 hour days.

Passion of caring for people. Emergency response skills. Critical thinking.

Being a nurse tests my knowledge + applicability, empathy and decision making on the daily. Nursing has molded me into the person I am today, taught me countless communication skills and allowed me to connect with so many people within my community. Being a nurse has taught me that wearing my heart on my sleeve is okay + allows me to provide patient-centered care for my patients.

Nursing allows me to have a flexible schedule, which is crucial for also being in agriculture. When it’s raining, you can normally find me at the hospital.

Even on the hard days, I am forever grateful for this profession.

“But for Erica, it’s not enough to just exist in both careers. She wants to raise awareness in two of the most important industries in our country: healthcare and agriculture.”
